Dread Thrash Metal Band

Albuquerque’s Heavy Hitmakers
Dread thrash metal band, formed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2007, became known for their raw energy, crushing riffs, and relentless live presence. Headed by vocalist and guitarist Taylor Dread, the group captured the spirit of underground thrash with visceral intensity and DIY ethos.
The project began as a solo endeavor by Taylor Dread in the summer of 2007. By 2008, guitarist Antonio Camarena joined, followed by James Gonzales on drums. This lineup performed its debut show on November 30, 2008, signaling the transformation from lone passion project into a full band.
In early 2009, Mikey “Thrashin’” Armijo took over second guitar duties, and bassist Matt (last name unconfirmed) filled out the rhythm section. Their first full-band performance took place on January 30, 2009—a milestone that sparked the band’s aggressive live identity.
Following that show, Matt departed and was replaced by Joseph Chavez. Shortly afterward, Dread shared the stage at Albuquerque’s Thrashageddon, performing alongside local heavyweights such as Fueled by Fire and Merciless Death. This event helped spread their reputation through New Mexico’s underground metal scene.
Later in 2009, the band recorded and self-released the Slay the Kings demo, showcasing their speed-driven brutality. They also worked on tracks for what would become the Tuck You Into Death EP—intended as a debut album but ultimately unreleased due to quality standards.
In 2010, bassist Matt “Sloth” Garcia joined, completing the lineup that would enter Nightforce Records’ studio to record their first full-length album, Brace for Destruction. Released that year, the album delivered uncompromising thrash aggression and earned praise on regional metal airwaves.
The Brace for Destruction LP solidified Dread thrash metal band as a ferocious act of the Southwest metal scene. With its fast-paced tracks, feral vocals, and gritty production, it echoed classic thrash while adding a fresh, independent edge.
Touring remained at the heart of their operation, with multiple regional shows and DIY tours across New Mexico’s live circuit. Though they never reached mainstream limelight, their underground consistency garnered respect from thrash purists.
By mid-2011, Dread had disbanded, capping off a four-year run that produced raw recordings and a dedicated roster of local fans. Though short-lived, their influence persisted in Albuquerque’s thrash community.
Today, Dread thrash metal band is remembered for its brief but explosive existence. Their aggressive sound and grassroots approach left a mark on regional metal, making Brace for Destruction a cult classic among underground thrash enthusiasts.
