Islander Band

South Carolina’s Dynamic Alternative Metal Force
Islander band, hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, formed in 2011 and rapidly earned attention for their energetic fusion of nu-metal, post-hardcore, and alternative metal. Influenced by acts like Deftones and Korn, they carved out a distinct space in the modern rock landscape.
Frontman Mikey Carvajal backed by Chris Carvajal, Erik Shea, and past members anchors the sound with a mix of rap, clean singing, and screams reminiscent of Jonathan Davis and Fred Durst. Their lithe blend of aggression and melody allows the Islander band to stand out among contemporaries.
Early releases like the EPs Side Effects of Youth (2012) and Pains. (2013) set the stage for their debut LP Violence & Destruction in 2014, released via Victory Records. The album spawned the radio single “Coconut Dracula,” peaking at #23 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.
In 2016, Power Under Control followed, entering the charts at #18 on Hard Rock Albums and #9 on Heatseekers. Singles such as “Darkness” and “Bad Guy” further showcased their evolution into a heavier and more polished sound.
After parting ways with Victory in 2017, the Islander band reclaimed their creative freedom—releasing the self-produced single “Summer” and embracing self-sufficiency in their art, videos, and touring choices.
Their third studio album, It’s Not Easy Being Human (2022), featured collaborations with members of Korn, Underoath, and P.O.D. Tracks like “Skin Crawl” and “The Outsider” displayed lyrical depth and communal songwriting.
Most recently, Islander unveiled Grammy Nominated (June 28, 2024), a fan-funded and fully independent album deemed their heaviest yet. It reflects the band’s growth and autonomy following a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Touring has been integral to the Islander band’s ascent—from the 2014 Mayhem Festival to sharing stages with Papa Roach, Seether, Blessthefall, and Escape the Fate. In 2025, they join Lacey Sturm’s Kenotic Metanoia tour.
With a blend of chart success, multimedia creativity, and relentless touring, the Islander band remains a potent force in alternative metal—continually pushing boundaries while staying true to their roots in Greenville.
